John Hetherington

John Hetherington is Global Head of Risk & Controls for Specialty Chemicals company, Elementis. He is responsible for overseeing the company’s governance and strategy for global risk management.

John provides independent oversight and guidance for managing risk, including the development and implementation of risk management measures across the company. He leads efforts to build and sustain a strong culture in which all employees understand the importance of managing risk to deliver responsible growth and serve customers, shareholders and communities.

John is leading the response to the 2024 Corporate Governance Code legislation particularly in relation to operational and compliance material controls, ensuring that evaluation, assessment and attestation processes meet FRC requirements & business needs.

John former appointments include Global Head of Audit for Telecoms operator Digicel based in the Caribbean; and a variety of roles across diverse segments, including Esso Oil, Hasbro Toys, Carrier Air conditioning, Otis Lifts, Chubb Security & Suzuki Cars & Motorcycles.

John is a qualified UK Management Accountant, equipped with an Executive MBA from Bayes Business School in London.

John actively monitors new and emerging trends in Risk Management through external networks, such as the Risk Leadership Network.
