Yanya advises organisations and technology startups on their cybersecurity posture and data protection practices with a focus on organisational culture and applied ethics. She is Chair of Cyber Risk & Governance at the Swiss Cyber Forum in Zürich, an expert ethics advisor to the European Commission Horizon2020 programme, and an Advisory Board member of the International Data Corporation.
Most recently, she was the Senior Counsel for Global Data Privacy at a multinational engineering technology company in Switzerland. Previously, she developed the global data protection programmes for the UN Refugee Agency, and the International Committee for the Red Cross. Yanya began her career as a prosecutor in Australia, prosecuting a wide range of federal and state crimes including privacy and cyber offences, and advising the Australian Federal Privacy Commissioner.
She has lectured on data protection at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and has edited and contributed to multiple industry standards and publications on cybersecurity, AI, data protection, privacy and ethics - topics on which she regularly presents at conferences.
Yanya is an Australian Bar-admitted attorney and holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Masters of Law, and a Bachelor of International Relations - from the Australian National University. She gained her Data Protection Officer certification from the European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity at Maastricht University, and holds certificates in cybersecurity from MIT and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and a WomenTech Global Ambassador.
