Michael Southgate

Mike has been in the Compliance industry for 18 years, holding positions as the Global Compliance head for Travelex, Compliance Director for Google Payments Europe, Head of Compliance for Ebury Partners, and Associate director for AML at FScom. Mike’s last role was as the Group Compliance head for Hamilton Court FX, a mifid regulated derivatives firm, where he oversaw $4bn in turnover, across their 5 licences, before joining Paytrix, a payments orchestration firm.

 Outside of work he is also the AML and Tech lead, as well as the regulatory liaison to the FCA for AFEP (A trade body for payments firms) through which he has provided guidance and training  to law enforcement and regulators across Europe. He regularly presents at conferences on a range of subjects including Risk Based Approaches and Financial crime, as well as bank De-risking. 

He founded a Transaction Monitoring service, Ermi, aimed at offering a fixed cost, Actual Intelligence (Not Artificial) service for start-ups to detect Financial Crime, as well as Luci, an anonymous Fraud prevention, information sharing network for the UK Payments industry.

He holds a degree in law, a degree in Governance Risk and Compliance, A Postgraduate Diploma in Governance Risk and CCompliance (GRC) and a masters degree in the Prevention of Organized Crime and Terrorism.

When not working Mike Mountain Bikes and builds ultralight sports cars.
