A 5G cyber security test lab will be launched in Malaysia to cover Internet of Things (IoT) and telecommunications security, plus improving readiness in responding to 5G-related cyber-attacks, says communications and multimedia minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
The new service will be a model for end-to-end cybersecurity, testing a range of scenarios and offering evaluation services for mobile applications and hardware, he added.
“It will cover a comprehensive 5G test bed ecosystem comprising technologies such as 5G radio access network (RAN), the Edge network and also cloud applications,” Malaysian news agency Bernama quoted him as saying.
The test lab, the first in South East Asia, will be established jointly by national cyber security agency CyberSecurity Malaysia, Malaysian mobile phone operator Celcom Axiata and the Malaysian arm of Chinese telecom Huawei Technologies.
Saifuddin’s comments were made in a virtual speech during a forum hosted by Huawei at the Mobile World Congress 2021 held in Shanghai.
