Ransomware attackers forced Swiss price comparison website comparis.ch offline for two days last week with the associated data breach probably resulting in client data being stolen, Zurich police say.
The perpetrators demanded $400,000 (€338,000) in cryptocurrencies to put the website, which has 80m visits a year, back online. Comparis said no ransom was paid, news website Swiss Info reported.
Detailed analysis showed the attackers had access to some internal customer data and the assumption is it was stolen, police said.
Comparis, whose users compare prices of insurance policies, mortgages and other financial products, says it has informed those potentially affected and strongly recommends customers change their password as a precaution.
