Chief Security Advisor, Microsoft
Joseph is the Chief Security Advisor of Microsoft for US Health & Life Sciences, where he advises payors, providers, pharmaceuticals, lab sciences, medical devices, and various research organizations.
Prior to Microsoft, Joseph led North America Security Advisory for Avanade/Accenture.
Prior to Avanade, Joseph was the CISO of Sensata Technologies. As a CISO, Joseph led the Global Privacy and Security Organization at Sensata Technologies where he brought technology, policy, and process to an asset and resource lite organization under the guidance of the Board of Directors and CIO.
Prior to Sensata, he spent over a decade at Covidien (now Medtronic) building their information and security practices including traditional IT Security (SOC, Incident Response & Forensics), Security Architecture, Identity and Access Management, Enterprise IT Risk, IT Compliance and Data Privacy. Here, Joseph also built a world-class Global Security Operations Center.
While at Covidien, Joseph participated in drafting FDA Guidance on connected medical device safety and was an active member of Medical Device Innovation, Safety and Security Consortium (MDISS).
Joseph holds multiple industry-recognized security certifications; CISSP, CCSP, GCFE, GSLC, and is a cybersecurity & privacy leader, expert, author, teacher, and architect with over 25 years’ experience.
Joseph continues to run Treelo, LLC; Security Advisors since 2002.Joseph’s career highlights include speaking engagements, co-authoring FDA guidance on medical device security testing, educating the next generation of InfoSec professionals as an adjunct professor, and community involvement through ISSA, InfraGard, ISC2, and SANS.
